Improvisation Et Caprice Presentation Essays
Improvisation Et Caprice Presentation Essays Improvisation Et Caprice Presentation Paper Improvisation Et Caprice Presentation Paper IMPROVISATION ET CAPRICE September 13, 2011 By Eugene Bozza Saxophone Studio Presentation Presented by Robby Avila ââ¬Å"The good man is the only excellent musician, because he gives forth a perfect harmony not with a lyre or other instrument but with the whole of his life. â⬠Plato Eugene Bozza (4 April 1905 ââ¬â 28 September 1991) Eugene Bozza was a 20th century French musician and talented composer who wrote many important works for not only the saxophone, but for nearly every wind instrument. He was born in Nice on the 4th of April 1905. He studied the arts of composition, conducting, and playing the violin at the Paris Conservatoire. There, he won the Prix de Rome for his work La legend de Roukmani, a cantata based on an Indian legend. After completing his course of study in Paris, he moved to Valenciennes, where he would become the director of the Ecole Nacionale de Musique. There he would remain until his retirement in 1975. Although retired from his major teaching career, he was still an active composer until his death in Valenciennes on the 28th of September 1991. Very gifted in the art of music, he has proven himself to be a highly prolific composer with very important works for many instruments (See outline for a list of the pieces composed for saxophone alone). Although he primarily known for his solo and chamber works, he also composed five symphonies, operas, and ballets. Unfortunately, his larger works are rarely played outside of France. Improvisation et Caprice (1952) Written by Eugene Bozza in 1952, this piece is dedicated to the professor of saxophone at the Paris Conservatoire, Marcel Mule, a great French saxophonist and model for saxophone playing. The piece is a challenging work, pushing students with demands of musicality, technique, tone, and rhythm. Not uncommon amongst composers, Bozza often ââ¬Å"plagiarizedâ⬠from himself, borrowing ideas he had used in earlier works to aid in the composition of a newer one. The Improvisation portion of this piece is no different. It is lifted from the middle section of his Image Op. 32, a piece he had written for unaccompanied flute. Although different in the sense that it transposed down a minor third with an added fermata at the end, all other aspects remain the same. The Caprice portion, however, appears to be completely original in Bozzaââ¬â¢s library of compositions. On a related note, the outside sections of his Image appear in another work for saxophone. This composition Piece Breve, another unaccompanied saxophone piece, uses the rest of his musical ideas from Images. After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. â⬠-Aldous Huxley Robby Avila (22 January 1988 ââ¬â Present) Robby Avila is a Saxophone Performance Major at Kansas State University focusing on saxophone pedagogy, works for wind band, and jazz studies. He was born in Tulsa, OK on the 22nd of January 1988. Before coming to KState, he attended Campus High School in Wichita, KS, where he studied saxophone with Kim Whittemore, Brandon Morse, and Lisa Hittle. In Wichita, he was a member of the Wichita Wind Ensemble, The Kansas Music Ambassadors, and played with the Wichita State University Concert Band and Basketball Band. Upon graduating from high school, he came to Kansas State University and began study with Dr. Anna Marie Wytko. At K-State, he has been an active member in Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Saxophone Quartet, Jazz Band, Latin Jazz, Jazz Combos, Marching Band, and Cat Band. After completing his course of study, he hopes to continue on to graduate school to further his education and obtain a Master in Music and eventually complete doctorate work.

Company Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 4
Company Law - Essay Example This will be accomplished by setting out the main features of the limited liability company and the partnership. Once these features are set out, comparisons relative to the advantages of a registered limited liability company over a partnership can be explained and evaluated. The main legal benefits of a registered limited liability company is the existence of perpetual life, its separate legal personality from its incorporators and the limited liability of shareholders and other classes of owners and investors.2 Under UK company law, a company has limited liability status when the shareholdersââ¬â¢ liability is limited to the amount that is ââ¬Å"payable for the sharesâ⬠.3 A registered company simply refers to the fact that the company is registered with the companiesââ¬â¢ registrar and is a typical function of UK company law formalities.4 The concept of limited liability was first introduced in UK law under the Limited Liability Act 1855 conferring upon shareholders what was characterized as ââ¬Å"conditional limited liabilityâ⬠.5 Liability was conditional upon providing ââ¬Å"a minimal capitalâ⬠which necessitated adding the word limited to the companyââ¬â¢s name signaling the fact of liability.6 In 1856 the UK introduced the Joint Stock Companies Act which officially made limited liability unconditional. The Companies Act 1862 reflected the concept of limited liability and the era of limited liability was deeply entrenched in the UKââ¬â¢s corporate culture.7 Essentially, what limited liability means is that the shareholders of the company many not be held liable for the companyââ¬â¢s debts ââ¬Å"beyond the amount that he has chosen to investâ⬠.8 In other words, if the company is unable to discharge its debts the shareholders cannot be personally liable for the shortfall. A limited liability company also enjoys the status of legal personality which

What itTakes to be a Leader Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
What itTakes to be a Leader - Research Paper Example While peeping into the history of several great leaders, they are found abound with several discerning traits in their style of functioning. It would be most appropriate to identify the exemplary skills that make one effective and inspiring leader across all cultures, societies and communities. Integrity President Eisenhower once said, "The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office" (Forbes, 2013). Leaders with integrity do and preach the same things; no difference is found in their saying and doing. People get inspired only when they see their leaders full of integrity in their day-to-day activities. It needs to be noted that without integrity, leaders cannot create a lasting image on their followers, peers, or subordinates. Courage Primarily, it requires courage to be a leader. Courage does not mean becoming a great warrior in the battl efield that fires enemies but the real courage is to do the right things always regardless of its consequences. Leaders display courage to go against traditional thinking and take risks without jeopardizing their integrity, values and ethics. Moreover, their courage never derives its strength from official power sources. I do not consider Stalin, Mussolini or Hitler as true leaders because their courage emanates from the powers they relish as rulers. That is why they could not make any good for their citizens or humankind. Contrasting this, M. K. Gandhi or Martin Luther King had no powers whatsoever but they turned the tide in their favor by sheer inspirational and motivational abilities. Truly, Gandhi and King were courageous leaders as they faced rulers bare handedly putting their own life at risk. They were charismatic leaders who could garner mass support through non-violent means. Empowerment Empowerment is a buzzword of twenty first century and since industrial revolution, the world has moved a lot ââ¬â in last hindered years or so using this philosophy. Leaders disseminate power from source to periphery and empower people as per their capacities. This enhances self-respect and dignity of the people. Empowered people tend to work at best of their abilities delivering excellent outcomes. A leader tends to provide direction to the people but never controls and restricts them. At the same time, effective leaders share success with others and take blame of failures on them. In real sense, a true leader becomes a facilitator on the path for smooth trotting. In today's corporate world, young adults, wherever they work, love autonomy and leaders respect it because it is easy to bring organizational change by giving them more operational freedom. Bill Gates says, ââ¬Å"As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower othersâ⬠(Pritchard, 2011). How true his statement is! Creative and Visionary Creativity, innovativeness or fore sightedness is a specialty of an effective leader. Leaders see the future upheavals much in advance and accordingly, formulate their plan. However, they are found to be hardworking and dedicated but the quality that set them apart is their vision. As the world becomes more technology driven, the leadership will come in the hands of those people who are highly creative. Steve Jobs got a second stint in Apple because he was highly creative in his approach. He designed, built and marketed the products in the ways that many large companies, during the time, could not even think of. Emotional Intelligence Emotional intelligence is a hallmark of true leaders. Intelligence at cognitive level is just not sufficient to make someone an

Swot of Starbucks and Coffee Bean Essay Example for Free
Swot of Starbucks and Coffee Bean Essay Coffee Bean as compared, do not have that much franchise stores like Starbucks because they are not that profitable. 2) The Starbucks organization has strong ethical values and an ethical mission statement as follows,à Starbucks is committed to a role of environmental leadership in all facets of our business. They wish to change the lifestyle of the peoples and they have succeeded in doing so, once people wish to drink coffee the first brand that comes into the mind is ââ¬Å"Starbucksâ⬠3) Compared to Starbucks, Coffee Bean is involved in more community responsibilities and through this activity they have attracted more customers. ) Starbucks and Coffee Bean both face the same weaknesses because no matter how they innovate the new flavor, peopleââ¬â¢s taste might change in time, they canââ¬â¢t make much different changes on coffee, which is the weakness of this business. 5) Coffee Bean faces the problem of ââ¬Å"franchise policyâ⬠, they do not construct it perfectly and we canââ¬â¢t get the Coffee Bean shop anywhere just like Starbucks. 6) Starbucks is very good at taking advantage of opportunities. In 2004 the company created a CD-burning service in their Santa Monica (California USA) cafe with Hewlett Packard, where customers create their own music CD. Moreover, new products and services that can be retailed in their cafes, such as Fair Trade products. 7) Starbucks has the opportunity to expand its global operations. New markets for coffee such as India and the Pacific Rim nations are beginning to emerge. 8) Starbucks gained the opportunity because they have co-branding with other manufacturers of food and drinks, and brand franchising to manufacturers of other goods and services. Both have potential while Coffee Bean does not have it. 9) However, Coffee Bean still has a market potential because their taste is slightly different from Starbucks. Their prices are also cheaper than Starbucks, which makes their product more affordable to middle or lower class people. 10) Actually both companies face similar threats. Who knows if the market for coffee will grow and stay in favour with customers, or whether another type of beverage or leisure activity will replace coffee in the future? People will start to consider their health problems, some people are sensitive with caffeine so will these people change to drinking other beverages instead of coffee?

The Black Friday Takeover Essay -- Hollydays, Thanksgiving
ââ¬Å"Mommy, why didnââ¬â¢t I get what I wanted for Thanksgiving this year?â⬠This question seems absurd in a modern-day context, but in the future, it could be a question that is asked much too often. With holiday-themed advertisements in the media and holiday discount deals already visible on the shelves, it is no wonder that Black Friday and the holiday shopping season are creeping up closer and closer to Thanksgiving. Black Friday is a popular phrase used to describe the chaotic shopping frenzy that takes place every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In recent years, the chaos of this so-called ââ¬Å"holidayâ⬠has only escalated; consumers are trampling one another to get the best deals, and retailers are scrambling to keep up with their competitors. However, this year, many large department stores in the United States are opening their doors on Thanksgiving day in preparation for Black Friday (Zilman). This unprecedented event brings light to a star tling change in American society. Black Fridayââ¬â¢s inevitable takeover of Thanksgiving will ruin the holiday itself and negatively impact traditional familial values because it will force Americans to embrace materialism in place of graciousness. Thanksgiving is a traditional American holiday dating back to colonial times. The commonly-known First Thanksgiving is a story that all American children learn. The Native Americans teach the Pilgrims to grow food to last the winter. At the end of the harvest, the Pilgrims and Native Americans come together to celebrate and give thanks for the friendship they have and for all of the blessings they have received. Modern Thanksgiving, although based off of the First Thanksgiving, has evolved considerably. It is traditionally celebrated by fam... ...Jennifer. ââ¬Å"With Thanksgiving-Night Openings, Do Retailers Risk More Than Busting Doors?â⬠Forbes.com. n.p., 14 Nov 2012. Web. 15 Nov 2013. A Young Mans Song
Take a Chance The poem, The Young Manââ¬â¢s Song by William Butler Yeats creates an encouraging tone to convince people in taking a chance with love. The poem creates a symbolic meaning of taking a chance when the poem says, ââ¬Å"Wherefore I threw a penny to find if I might love. â⬠This line describes that people need to take a chance at love otherwise they may not get another chance. You have to throw the penny in order to take a chance. Go and love, go and love young man, If the lady be young and fair,â⬠shows that the young man should go after this lady if she seems to be worth the effort. The young man should go after this lady before someone else does. This poem depicts the subject of love. The poem has an encouraging tone for people in love because it gives people hope that there is a chance for them to love. The mood is also similar because it is hopeful for the young man to gain love. These two help show the subject of the poem is love. This subject is shown in the theme by explaining that if you wait too long to go for love, then it may be too late. It is better to take a chance then to wait until it is too late. The poem describes how love cannot be understood fully by anyone so the goal should be to not become worried about love and to take a chance even if youââ¬â¢re not sure how it will end up.The poem says that a person would be thinking of love until the stars had run away which is describing how people may wait too long to express their love. This may mean that if you donââ¬â¢t take a chance now, then you may not get another chance in the future. The very end of the poem emphasizes this point when it says, ââ¬Å"One cannot begin too soon. â⬠This specific line gives the idea of throwing all your worries away and taking a chance because it is never too early to love.

Por vs. Para in Spanish
'Por' vs. 'Para' in Spanish Two Spanish prepositions, por and para, are usually used for the English word for. The differences between them sometimes are subtle, and thus por and para are a constant source of confusion for Spanish students. Key Takeaways: Por and Para Although both Spanish prepositions por and para can often be translated as for, they have separate meanings and can seldom be used as synonyms.Por is often used to indicate who performs an action or the reason for it being performed.Para is often used to indicate the result of an action being performed. Think of Meaning Rather than Translation If its any consolation, prepositions can be as difficult for people learning English. Why do we sometimes say something is under control, and sometimes say something is in control? Why are we in the house but at home? The rules sometimes escape logic. The key to understanding which preposition to use is to think of the meaning you want to convey. If I use a phrase such as three for a dollar in English, the for has a different meaning than it does in this book is for you. In the first case, for indicates an exchange or a rate, while in the second case it indicates an intention or direction. Thus the Spanish translation of the two phrases are different, tres por un dà ³lar and este libro es para ti. The following chart shows some of the major uses of these two prepositions, including ones not translated by for. Uses for Por Por is often used to indicate how something is done or ihe cause of an action. Although the distinction between cause and outcome isnt always clear, por generally isnt used to indicate the result of an action. Expressing movement along, through, around, by, or about: Anduve por las calles de Gijà ³n. (I walked through the streets of Gijà ³n.) Viajamos por Australia con un Land Rover. (We traveled around Australia with a Land Rover.)Denoting a time or duration when something occurs. Viajamos por tres semanas. (Were traveling for three weeks.) Debes pensar en otras personas por sà ³lo un momento. (You ought to think about other people for just a moment.)Expressing the cause (not the purpose) of an action: Me caà por la nieve. (I fell down because of the snow.) Los conflictos originaron por las diferencias culturales e ideolà ³gicas. (The conflicts began because of the cultural and ideological differences.)à Hay diferencia entre comer por hambre y comer por placer. (There is a difference between eating out of hunger and eating for pleasure.)Meaning per: Dos por ciento. (Two percent.) Prefiero comer cuatro comidas por dà a. (I prefer eating four meals per day.) Por can also be trans lated as a when a is a preposition: Leo un libro por semana. (I read one book a week.) Meaning supporting or in favor of: Trabajamos por derechos humanos. (We work for human rights.) No puedo votar por el presidente. (I cant vote for the president.)Introducing the agent of an action after a passive verb:. For this reason, por is often used in stating the author of a book or other composition:à Fue escrito por Bob Woodward. (It was written by Bob Woodward.) Ser comido por las aves. (It will be eaten by the birds.)Indicating means of transportation: Viajarà © por avià ³n. (I will travel by plane.)à Quiero llegar a Venezuela por barco. (I want to arrive at Venezuela by ship.)Used in numerous expressions: Por ejemplo. (For example.) Por favor. (Please, literally as a favor.) Uses for Para Para is often used to indicate the outcome of an action or to indicate who or what is affected by an action. Meaning for the purpose of or in order to: Para bailar la bamba, necesita una poca de gracia. (In order to dance the bamba you need a little grace.) Los buses se usan para ir a la frontera. (The buses are used for going to the border.)With a noun or pronoun as object, meaning for the benefit of or directed to: Es para usted. Its for you. Necesitamos mucho dinero para el desarrollo del paà s. (We need a lot of money for the countrys development.)Meaning to or in the direction of when referring to a place: Voy para Europa. (Im heading to Europe.) Salimos para el almuerzo. (We are leaving for lunch.)Meaning by or for when referring to a specific time: Necesito el regalo para maà ±ana. (I need the gift for tomorrow.) Vamos a la casa de mi madre para el fin de semana. (Were going to my mothers for the weekend.)

Density of Common Substances
Density of Common Substances The table below shows theà density of some common substances, in units of kilograms per cubic meter. Some of these values may certainly seem counter-intuitive- one would not expect mercury (which is a liquid) to be more dense than iron, for example. Notice that ice has a lower density than either water (freshwater) or seawater (saltwater), so it will float in them. Seawater, however, has a higher density than freshwater, which means that the seawater will sink when it comes in contact with freshwater. This behavior causes many significant ocean currents and the concern of glacier melting is that it will alter the flow of seawater- all from the basic functioning of density. To convert the density to grams per cubic centimeter, merely divide the values in the table by 1,000. Density of Common Substances Material Density (kg/m3) Air (1 atm, 20 degrees C 1.20 Aluminum 2,700 Benzene 900 Blood 1,600 Brass 8,600 Concrete 2,000 Copper 8,900 Ethanol 810 Glycerin 1,260 Gold 19,300 Ice 920 Iron 7,800 Lead 11,300 Mercury 13,600 Neutron star 1018 Platinum 21,400 Seawater (Saltwater) 1,030 Silver 10,500 Steel 7,800 Water (Freshwater) 1,000 White dwarf star 1010

Editting - Essay Example Instead, the continued thriving of consumerism is due to our own innate needs, desires and aspirations. The article by Randall Patterson titled ââ¬ËProfiles in Splurgingââ¬â¢ complements Twitchellââ¬â¢s core thesis. This essay will qualify the aforementioned working thesis by considering all the facts and arguments presented in these two articles. To a great extent, the claim in the working thesis can be viewed as a logical one and there is evidence all around us that validates and supports it. The acquisition of property and goods is often used as a hallmark of success where the ones who have the ââ¬Å"bestâ⬠, ââ¬Å"biggestâ⬠or ââ¬Å"mostâ⬠of something are considered most successful. To appreciate that, one only needs to observe the mass media, especially television, magazines as well as online polls. Every year Forbes comes out with a list of the richest in the world. There are surveys to show, for instance which footballer owns the biggest car and art enthusiasts and collectors often strive to have the most extensive collection of paintings, books and many other ostentatious goods. For example Bill Gates is ranked as the richest man in the world, this ranking being based on our perception of money as an indirect endorsement for the man as the most successful businessman alive. These measurements do not take into account what he has achieved, how many people he has helped or even how happy he is. All that counts are the possessions he has accumulated. Thus the rest of America works tirelessly to acquire as much as they can and often forgetting to enjoy them since their primary goal is to be viewed as successful in their circles. The most direct route to that is to buy and flaunt. It is as if most Americans would pick money over happiness if they had a chance. Twitchell is not blind to the obvious flaws of consumerist culture. Going by the centrality that society offers material possessions it would then appear that the poor lack meaning and inevitably

Preliminary Organizational Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Preliminary Organizational Analysis - Essay Example In regard to the production situation, the departmentââ¬â¢s performance constantly remains under the scrutiny of the strategies department plus the ministry in charge. In the last quarter performance indicator survey, the department had trouble attaining the earlier set goals and objectives plus submitting their reports. The few staff members whined of responsibilities getting distributed unfairly. In fact, some of the workers concurred toiling more than others thereby emanating in unequal work pressure distribution (Jenster & Hussey 32). Some employees in the department possessed inadequate skills plus qualifications to work there. Furthermore, all the staff possessed the same job title, but with no specific job descriptions. Moreover, they too had problems in identifying the individual who possessed the official documents relevant to their department, thereby contributing to disorganization while trying to accomplish certain tasks due to missing documents. Furthermore, coordinat ion and harmonization among the staff became poor over time since some thought were superior to others. In addition, some repudiated orders directed to them by their fellow staff members, and only confounded to those directed to them by their seniors (Jenster & Hussey 54). ... Since the various committees had set goals and objectives, the boss left his deputy in charge of the various initiatives to be commenced. The deputy decided to oversee the initiatives by himself and took the responsibilities of planning, follow up and supervision (Jenster & Hussey 68). Analysis of the situation The strategies department and the Ministry of Internal Security in emphasizing more on timely delivery of performance reports from the various police stations, the department received immense pressure (Jenster & Hussey 46). Accordingly, by the police boss getting involved in various committees meant he had less time to establish a detailed organizational structure for the department plus prepare job descriptions for each staff. Moreover, in having less time, meant that during the end of every quarter when the strategic department came to collect performance reports, denotes he avoided accountability. For him, as long as the administration department achieved its goals and obje ctives as per the performance records, meant there existed no administrative problem. In addition, by the police boss lacking a personal secretary contributed to him having less time for his department due to poor time management, leading to poor communication between the boss and the staff (Jenster & Hussey 83). In relation to the committees, by the deputy police boss taking all responsibilities in the initiatives put forth, contributed to him too becoming busy to care for the staff problems. The employees in not knowing their job descriptions resulted to a lot of confusion in the department, but the police boss could not solve it due to his tight schedule. The staff in having poor coordination and harmonization at work affected
